Most people believe that nursing homes are the only options available as you prepare to care for an aging parent. As a matter of fact, very few residents require dedicated nursing care and can benefit from an independent, assisted or memory care setting.

Indeed, for decades, only about 5 percent of the country’s older adults have ever resided in a nursing home (called a skilled nursing facility for its more advanced care).
